Whole body Vibration Machines – Do They Work – Gain MUSCLE – Loss FAT.

[MUSIC PLAYING] We’re here at Dumont Dunes. I’m going to go
over a question I keep receiving over
and over about how does vibration plates work
and how do they burn calories? It’s Dr. Mike. Today I’m going to go
over muscle fibers, because that seems
to be a tricky thing. Now people don’t realize
that not every muscle fiber has the same function. There’s actually three
types of muscle fiber. A slow twitch, which is
designed for endurance; a fast twitch, which is designed
for a quick burst of speed; and a super fast twitch which
was designed for reflexes, it’s a reflex-type muscle. The slow twitch is the most
efficient muscle fiber. It’s designed for duration,
long durations, long distances. This is the one
reason why treadmills aren’t the perfect thing
for burning calories, because you’re utilizing
a system in the body that is specifically designed
to save calories. Now, the fast
twitch muscle fiber is designed for a
quick burst of speed. It’s like if you were– you know, 10,000
years ago, you’re being chased by a bear
or some type of predator, you want to move as
fast as possible. It’s a system designed for
short durations of speed. Now slow twitch burns
the least amount. Fast twitch burns the second– it’s like the middle amount. Actually, it’s very effective
at burning calories. Now the third is a reflex. Now a reflex muscle, you touch
a hot stove, your hand jerks away; or you’re
falling and you have all these automated systems. When you fall backwards,
your arms go backwards. You fall forwards,
your hands go forwards. If you touch something hot,
you’re going to jerk away. These systems are called
a synaptic loop reflex. It means they don’t have
to travel to the brain to get a reaction,
they go straight to the spinal cord
and then back again. Now the key about
these muscle fibers is that not only do they
work the super fast twitch or the reflex muscles, they work
the fast and the slow twitch also. Depending on how
hard it’s pushed depends on how many
muscle fibers are incorporated into the system. A whole body vibration is
kind of a strange thing. I understand that to some
people it doesn’t make sense. But when you have
hundreds of bones that are connected
together by joints, and these joints are
fluid-filled little unions that are filled with this fluid
called synovial fluid. For our bodies to stand up
rigid and stand up straight, now this is an act of
the hundreds of muscles in the body contracting and
relaxing with perfection so that it keeps us
from falling down. It prevents us from
collapsing on the ground. The whole body vibration
plate, you’re standing on it. It’s violently going back. And the more planes of
vibration that you have, the more it’s going to
incorporate this synaptic [? glute ?] reflexes, or
the [? riding ?] systems in the body. And the more they’re
incorporated, the more muscle
fibers they activate, and the more calories you burn. Walking on a treadmill, riding a
stationary bike, these systems, they’re great. Yeah, I know they’re good. But when you compare
it to something that incorporates almost
97% of muscle fiber, it don’t even compare. On top of the increase
in the circulation, how it affects the
lymphatic system, there’s not even a comparison. It’s one of the
most efficient ways to exercise with
low impact and burn immense amounts of calories. I mean, you know, there’s some
generic numbers out there, but this is all arbitrary, but
roughly, an average-sized male in his 30s standing
on a vibration plate doing large muscle
group exercises can burn up to 300
calories in 15 minutes. Now, running on a treadmill,
you use a lot less calories because the ground is constantly
moving and all you’re doing is picking your feet
up and it assists you bringing your back– the weight-bearing leg backward,
so you just put the forward leg back down, and then when
that becomes weight-bearing, the machine aids in
the push backwards. So roughly, a treadmill,
you’re only burning about 55% of the calories as compared
to running outside, so don’t let that fool you. OK, I know this is
on long enough– I’m here at Dumont Sand Dunes. I thought I’d share this
information with you. But this is Dr. Mike. Thank you, and I’ve
got more videos coming. Remember, information is
power– the more you understand about the body, the more you
understand about everything [MOTOR REVVING] the better
choices you’ll make, because education is everything. Thank you and have a great day. OK, if you liked the videos,
please subscribe now. If you have any comments,
please leave them below. We’re trying to put out between
three to five videos per week so you have a
better understanding on different choices you can
make for health and wellness. This is Dr. Mike. Thank you, and again, subscribe
if you like this channel. [MUSIC PLAYING]
