Planet Fitness Staff, Off-Duty Nurse Act To Save Man’s Life

DAYS A WEEK AND SAYS IT HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY MORNING. ALL NEW AT 6:00, TENSE MOMENTS IN A PLANET FITNESS WHEN A MAN SUDDENLY COLLAPSED ON A FLOOR. FORTUNATELY AN EMPLOYEE RUSHED INTO HELP. SOON HE WAS JOINED BY OTHERS AND AS BETH GERMANO SHOWS US THEY ALL SAVED A LIFE. THERE’S A MAN THAT COLLAPSED. A 60-YEAR-OLD MAN WORKING OUT AT PLANET FITNESS IN WILMINGTON, ON THE FLOOR BARELY BREATHING. YOU PULL THIS AND IT TELLS YOU EXACTLY WHAT TO DO. THAT’S WHEN IAN PALMER SPRANG INTO ACTION GRABBING THE DEFIBRILLATOR. BY REMOVING ALL CLOTHING FROM THE PATIENT’S CHEST. HE STARTED CPR AT THE MAN, A REGULAR AT THE GYM, HE HAD A SLIGHT PULLS BUT WAS IN CARDIAC ARREST. IT WAS SCARY AND INTIMIDATING. I BLOCKED OUT, AND A LOT I DON’T REMEMBER BECAUSE OF HOW SCARY IT WAS. PALMER AND AN OFF-DUTY NURSE HOOKED UP THE DEFIBRILLATOR AND THEY KNEW HOW PRECIOUS THAT TIME WAS. IF IT WEREN’T THE DEFIBRILLATOR — WE WERE HEAR IN FOUR MINUTES, BUT FOUR MINUTES IN CARDIAC ARREST IS A LONG TIME. WHAT DID IF FEEL LIKE FOR YOU. YOU’RE WORRIED IF HE’S GOING TO MAKE IT OR NOT. AT THAT AN UNUSUAL SITUATION, OFTEN WHEN THEY RESPOND THIS KIND OF EMERGENCY, PEOPLE AROUND THE VICTIM ARE FROZEN AND AFRAID TO RESPOND. TO HAVE SOMEBODY ALREADY PROVIDING FIRST AID, RENDERING HELP AND CPR AND AD ON, IT’S A BIG PART IN THE LIFE SAVING EFFORT. THE FRIEND IS RECOVERING AT THE HOSPITAL. I WOULD WANT SOMEONE TO ACT
