In the Gym

Awesome! Welcome to Thrive Thursday!
I’m here with Shane and Shane wrote our article today called, “In the Gym.” We’re
gonna talk a little bit about physical behavior today…I was gonna say sports
but it’s not always related to sports. So tell us a little bit about the article
and why you wrote it and what’s going on with you. Well, so it just it started as
an innocent little experiment just like, can I be in the gym not paying attention
to reps, pace, load, that kind of thing and and just being with my body and where I
wanted to go with it and how much I wanted to do and, and whatever and, and
so with that experiment it ended up that I came to the realization that as I
was doing this…just being with the experience of working out…I ended up
discovering that oh without…I have trouble doing that because I feel like
I’m not getting what I need out of it or, at least, I’m not putting forth the
one hundred and ten percent effort like… go till I’m on the ground kind of a
thing. And then it kind of clicked in like, oh you beat up your body on a
regular basis because of XYZ and oh crap now I have to actually look into
that and not just be in the weight room and you know discover what that’s all
about. It actually was a link to something, you know, unwanted
psychological programming and I’m over and I’m ready to ready to do
something about. It’s just a very odd. So how did the awareness come? From like, you know, in terms of you just said that, “I identified a program that was running
that I wasn’t really aware of,” and, you know, what was the first
inclination to the awareness? So the inclination was I was feeling a lot…it
was a feeling, right? So I felt…I felt triggered and, “you’re not putting in as
much effort as you could,” or like, “you are not killing yourself so this isn’t right.”
Like, “you shouldn’t even be doing this!” or like, “you shouldn’t be doing it
this way,” and so there was a lot of guilt around that I believe that came up that,
“you should do it differently.” “It should be fun.” Yeah. And then the questioning
after that of can I do it in a different way? And is that going to…is that going
to bring about different results? Or, is that going to just, you know…we have a little bit music going on…is that gonna bring about different results or
can I feel different and bring about the same results? Yeah, yeah. Without focusing on the result. Exactly. Yeah, totally. So, so releasing
the result and understanding that what you’re doing is exactly what you need at
that, at that time. And that’s what I’ve discovered about the physical aspect in
the past two weeks and now it’s unpacking this emotional and
psychological side of things which is like, okay… where am i beating myself up just
because I think it’s the way I should do it? So after you figured that out information or that awareness came through
what did you decide that you want to do with that information?
Or maybe there’s nothing you want to do with it. I definitely feel compelled to do
something about it. The reason why I’m asking is because, you know, awareness is a great first step but when people are listening to this a lot of times they’re
like, well how do I do it then? Or, what do I do with that? Or, I don’t know what to
do with that. So are you…what brought it up? Or what’s the thought? Right now the only space that I’m in is just being alert and aware
of it and so when it does come up again in normal life, right, not just being
physical…when it does come up in normal life, “Okay. Why is it coming up and
do I have to do it this way anymore?” And what does it look like if I’m, when I
don’t do it that way. And so it’s really, I don’t know…you know, I mean like I
don’t know other than just being aware and then asking myself some questions about it. I love that. So getting more into the query space of what could it
look like if I need it differently? And…we use the word “and” a lot in that
space. Like what if I did it differently and I still got the same results? What
if I did it differently and I got to experience it in a whole new way, you
know? Yeah. You can experience results without the…without in my
experience, in my example without the guilt and shame around not feeling
totally depleted…unworthy. Yeah. Super cool. Awesome. So if this topic is something
that intrigues you we’d love to hear comments…questions below. We love
interacting with everybody. We have tons of clients that understand this…get this…
know our language and we would love to hear more from you guys and what we can do to help you understand more. So the other thing that we have going on is we have a lot of events coming up this summer. If you want to find out more about that check us out on our web site thrivehdc.com and it was super fun talking to you today. Thanks a lot for the article. It was great.
