plenty of people use smart watches or fitness trackers to keep an eye on their health but if you’re only using the devices to count steps you could be missing out here health reporter Haley Hernandez is running down some of the hidden features we don’t always think about there’s hidden health features but there’s also like this totally other side of fitness trackers where you don’t even have to like be around your phone it can alert you and vibrate you when your phone has a text message as long as it’s nearby and you can check track your navigation on it as well most people don’t even require special app to get all of these other benefits as well whether it’s a SmartWatch or a Fitbit it seems like everyone has one I like that I can share the activity with my friends so we can see like where we’re lining up next to each other I think all I did about 30,000 steps a day the use of fitness trackers is on the rise in fact by 2020 the world market for wearable technology and fitness and wellness is expected to grow to eleven point two billion dollars fitness trackers today can crunch a lot of useful health data we now have a multi-dimensional sensor which can capture a lot of information about how an individual moves through the world so what features are you not using that you should try monitoring your heart rate you can see how your heart rate changes during different exercise and the feature allows you to target certain fitness goals more closely with the GPS feature on some trackers you can try a new running route and never have to worry about getting lost also some fitness trackers allow you to track your elevation and you don’t only have to use your fitness tracker to workout you can use it to relax too some trackers have breathing reminders and meditation apps that allow you to slow down Wow fitness trackers are also not just for young active and healthy 17% of Americans over 65 use them to track vitals such as blood pressure or heart rate compared to 20% of Americans under 65
